Richard Keys suggests what Mo Salah would do if Chelsea offer him a better contract then Liverpool this summer

Liverpool look destined to end the season as Premier League champions after yet another statement victory on Wednesday.

Arsenal supporters would have been hoping for a favour from Newcastle at Anfield, but in the end it never looked like arriving.

Liverpool strolled to a 2-0 victory which moved them 13 points clear of the Gunners in the Premier League table. But, for the first time in nine matches, Mohamed Salah was not on the scoresheet for the Reds.

Nevertheless, Salah was still key to the victory, setting up Alexis Mac Allister to score the crucial second goal.

The Egyptian looks completely at ease at Anfield these days. You would never guess he is mere months away from departing the club on a sensational free transfer.

Hope remains that Salah will stay, of course. But if he does leave Liverpool, it will be fascinating to see where he ends up. According to pundit Richard Keys, it could well be a sensational return to Chelsea.

Richard Keys not ruling out Mohamed Salah to Chelsea

If Salah does end up leaving Liverpool, it has probably widely been assumed that he would be heading to the Saudi Pro League.

But, as he’s still the best player in the Premier League, that would seem like something of a waste of his still mercurial talents.

So, speaking to Andy Gray and former Liverpool player Jason McAteer on beIN SPORTS, Keys posed the question of whether Salah could actually stay in England.

“Could you see him playing for anybody else in England?” queried the presenter.

“No, he wouldn’t want to do that,” answered McAteer. “Liverpool have no say in it, so they can’t orchestrate what goes on. But Salah, he won’t want to spoil his legacy.”

“Coming up for 33, would you really want to tarnish your legacy to go and play somewhere else for a year, maybe two,” agreed Gray.

But Keys wasn’t having it, arguing that if Chelsea come up with a better contract offer than Liverpool for Salah, then he would be well within his rights to take it.

“If I’m leaving Liverpool and they haven’t done much to make their desire known to keep me, and I’ve got an offer on the table of 450 grand a week from Chelsea, then yeah I’m going to go and play for Chelsea,” he insisted.

Would Salah really join Chelsea?

During Salah’s last contract talks with Liverpool, in 2022, there was a suggestion that he would be keen to stay in the Premier League and could do that with a different club.

However, given everything he has done for Liverpool – and what he means to the club – it would seem incredibly unlikely that that could happen in 2025.

Salah may have a sense of unfinished business at Chelsea, but the Blues are surely not in a position to match his ambitions for the next couple of years.

Instead, if it is not the Pro League or Liverpool for Mo, a transfer to someone like PSG feels the most probable outcome.

Of course, we hope that it is all immaterial and Salah continues his love story on Merseyside.
